How does clothing retail inventory management and merchandising work?

I need to find out how many times a clothing retailer would generally order inventory. Is it twice a year for the spring/summer and fall/winter season? When do manufacturers usually ship the stuff? How do retailers know how much of each style to order? How does a merchandise plan work? I need to know these things for a new career I’m planning to launch, so any help would be TRULY APPRECIATED!!!!
